Unusual ‘Cape of Good Hope' plate decorated en grisaille and gilt with the view of two Dutch ships lying off The Cape.
One three master lengthwide and another sailing her way to shore.
In the background Cape Town with Table Mountain flanked by Signal Hill and Lion’s Head. The flags of Holland in top of the masts and on the sterns of the ships and on Lion’s Head, The rim with a border of foliate scrolls and flowers and leaf filled cornucopias.
Unique plate in extreme good condition, the grisaille not rubbed and even the gilding is still beautiful.
A rare plate and hard to find in this beautiful condition.
